Storm damage causes power outages across area

Both the City of Rosebud and Town of Lott were without power for several hours last week following Thursday night’s storm. Falls was only one of several counties in Central Texas reporting high winds, large hail, and heavy rains.

Along with the expected cracked and shattered windshields and damaged roofs, the wind took out a number of structures, including a number of lines. About four miles northeast of Troy, one pole snapped about five feet off the ground, while there were also at least two other poles with extensive damage.

“Straight line winds were the cause of the damage despite people seeing a funnel cloud,” confirmed Rosebud Volunteer Fire Department Trainer. “The only photos taken were of scud clouds in the area.”

Egg-sized hail was reported only eight miles east of Rosebud, while wind damaged a structure and the trees surrounding it a mile north-northeast of Troy. Highway 53 between highway 77 and FM 1963 was closed completely.

Oncor was onsite by the early hours of Friday morning, with projections of restoring power to both towns by early afternoon. Even with impending additional storms, power was restored by mid-afternoon.
