Texas Farm Bureau shares learning opportunity with local teachers

Falls County teachers who are looking to get their hands dirty, have fun and earn professional development credit this summer are urged to apply today for Texas Farm Bureau’s Summer Ag Institutes.

“The Summer Ag Institutes aren’t like other continuing education courses,” Renae Willberg, Falls County Farm Bureau president, said. “It’s an excellent opportunity for teachers to see first-hand what agriculture means to everyone, so they can share that information with their students.”

Teachers who attend SAI will receive new information about curriculum-aligned lesson plans and other resources that can be used to incorporate agriculture into the classroom.

“We want to make agriculture fun for students in our community,” Willberg said. “SAI helps teachers find ways to incorporate information about our crops and livestock into their classroom in a way that really engages students no matter what subject they’re teaching.”

The four-day professional development seminar is scheduled for June 10-13 in Waco and July 16-19 in Lubbock.

The events will include hands-on activities, site visits and presentations by experts in their fields.

Teachers will be eligible for up to 36 continuing professional education hours upon completion of the Summer Ag Institutes.

Registration is available online at www.texasfarmbureau.org/aitc.

The cost is $375 per person, which includes lodging and most meals, but sponsorships are sometimes available from Falls County Farm Bureau.

Teachers will be notified of sponsorship status after registration.

Registration closes May 17. It is limited to 40 teachers, and teachers can only attend one event each year.
