Voters OK Emergency Services election

Voters across the county passed all three Emergency Services District propositions on Saturday.

ESD 1 passed 322-53. ESD 2 passed 183-52. ESD 3 passed 223-66.

The Propositions authorize an increase in the maximum ad valorem tax rate that the districts may impose on property within the district to a rate not to exceed 10 cents per $100 valuation. The current tax rate is less than 3 cents per $100 valuation.

Currently the ESD’s collect .03 per $100 evaluation. This does not generate enough money to keep the Ambulance Service around and the ESD’s need to generate more money to ensure that an ambulance remains in the county.

The proposition is to put a maximum cap of .10 per $100 evaluation. This would be a gradual increase over years to come.

In the Rosebud-Lott ISD school board election results were: Kavey Wallace 284 votes, Michael Skala 271 votes, Cindy Kahlig 212 votes, Eric Moeller 187 votes, Julie Bennett 159 votes, Kalli Jo Williams-Thompson 81 votes, and Michael Ogas 32 votes.

There will be a recount in the Marlin Mayoral election on Thursday due to an eight vote difference in the outcome of Saturday’s election.

Results from Saturday show Sue Byrd defeated incumbent Mayor Carolyn Lofton 256-248.

Incumbent councilmembers Cecil Sparks (Precinct 5) and Debra Levels-McDavid (Precinct 3) were both re-elected. Neither had an opponent in the election.

Marlin voters also approved a proposition to lower the current ½ of one percent sales and use tax to ¼ of one percent to fund a Type B EDC which can fund projects eligible under certain circumstances. There were 366 votes for and 94 votes against the proposition.

Chilton ISD voters also passed a $14 million bond election 146-82.
