Wednesday Study Club Has January Workday in Memorial Room
With the approaching kitchen renovations of the Community Room of the D Brown Library, thirteen hard working Wednesday Study Club ladies moved the contents of their kitchen cabinets. Two sets of dishes with accessories along with dozens of glasses, several punch bowls and punch cups, and flatware, filled boxes and eventually tables in the Memorial Room where the items are being stored. The timeline has not yet been set but hopefully this spring the kitchen walls and cabinets will be painted, and a new granite countertop, backsplash, sink, faucet, and ceiling fan will be installed.
Members later met in the Memorial Room and discussed business. A conflict has occurred with the speaker for the April meeting, Pam Parcus, who was to give a book review. That will now take place at the May meeting along with Sheryl Fuchs’s Year in Review. With all of the renovations taking place, it was decided that the April meeting might now be a workday in order to prepare for the Golden Years Reunion on April 11. WSC President Carol Stock presented the idea to have the Memorial Room open for the Golden Years Reunion from 10 to 12. Preservation Rosebud has their open house from 9 to 11 so this would give attendees extra time at both places.
WSC members discussed that paper plates were used at most meetings and that the china and pottery just weren’t used anymore. Members shared ideas on how to dispose of the pottery dishes which included having a rummage sale, participating in the November 100 Garage Sale, or advertising on Facebook Marketplace. Stock finally suggested that she contact Highway 77 Café and see if they would be interested in the commercial pottery.
In case the kitchen renovations take place at the time of the WSC February 12 meeting, a different location would be used.
Mary Ann Mitchell, historian, plans to take the band, football, and FFA jackets that have been donated, fold them and place them on the new shelves in the cabinets in the Memorial Room. Then she will print label cards to pin to each jacket for identification. She has other plans to change out some of the Stubbs’ memorabilia in order to better display it.
The meeting was adjourned and visitor Ken Hensel closed the meeting with a prayer.
