Wednesday Study Club makes donation to Preservation Rosebud

The Wednesday Study Club is in charge of the Rosebud High School Memorial Room memorabilia.

In rearranging materials from Mary Stubbs, WSC member Carol Stock discovered numerous items that were related to the city of Rosebud.

Such items included calendars, pencils, clothes hangers, a ruler, a bottle opener, coin purses, a thimble, a level, key chains, and receipts that advertised Rosebud merchants from decades ago.

Some names included:  Light Brothers Cleaning & Pressing; Watson & White Dry Goods Clothing; A. J. Stocklas Gents Furnishings; Nicholson Funeral Home; George Williams Grocery & Market; Rosebud Mercantile Co., Bubela & Koppa Props., Groceries & Country Produce; Tarver Henslee Co.; L. R. McAtee Chevrolet; Freeman and Taylor General Merchants; Andy Voltin Ford Sales; and Bruce Campbell & Son Lumber Co.

There were several pictures of old Rosebud including gins, Main Street seen on Fireman’s Day 1911, Machacek Bakery Shop, the livery stable, the parking lot behind Souther’s, and the Rosebud laundromat.  A bag with the label Country Corn Meal Ground & Packed by Thomas Ribitzki, Rt. 6, Rosebud, Texas was found.

Several years ago, Howard Linn gave the WSC his Lions Club vest and cap along with several plaques.  Officers of the WSC decided that all of these items could be better displayed at Preservation Rosebud because the items relate to early Rosebud merchants and organizations, not Rosebud High School.  Recently WSC Secretary Carol Stock presented Preservation Rosebud President James Prothro and member Marla Wallace with this memorabilia of long-ago Rosebud.
