Wednesday Study Club Members Prepare for Golden Years Reunion with Workday

The Rosebud Wednesday Study Club met on March 9 in the Memorial Room of the D Brown Library with seven members in attendance including First Vice President Norma Burns, Secretary Carol Stock and Treasurer Sharon Skupin.  Others attending were Mary Frances Glass, Mary Ann Mitchell, Judy Smith, and Diane Pagel.

In the absence of President Beth Allen, Burns presided.  It was an informal short meeting so regular reports were not read.  Skupin gave a prayer for Ukraine.

Skupin related that the Rosebud Chamber of Commerce would be using the City Event Center for their yearly luncheon but needed additional tables and chairs.  Morgan Tindle asked if the WSC owned tables and chairs in the Community Room could be loaned to the Chamber of Commerce for that event and members agreed.

Skupin reported that the printer to be used with the microfilm had finally arrived, and the city technician will install it.

The stones for the flowerbeds should be delivered on Thursday, March 10, and city workers will install.  (The stones were delivered, and city workers placed them in the flowerbeds at the D Brown Library.)

Skupin searched for various ways to refurbish the pink chairs in the Memorial Room.  Fabric painting was considered but proved to be expensive and labor intensive.  She found cloth chair covers in beige and brown and had several fitted to the chairs.  Members liked the beige covers and Skupin will order additional ones.

Rosalie Haverstick came to show her Eastern Star albums and wondered if the Memorial Room would be a place to maintain them.  WSC members suggested that Rosebud Preservation would be a better location since it dealt with Rosebud organizations.

Due to the fire hazard, the divider in front of the exit door needs to be removed.  The Stubbs’ pictures have been rehung on either side of the entrance doors in the window indentions.  The “Play“ pictures were also removed and members decided that placing the pictures in albums would be the best display method.   Mitchell will take on that project.

Mitchell offered to print the half sheet associate member applications for the Golden Years Reunion.  This year we did not put our application in the mailout.

Skupin reported that the new tablecloths look very nice on the large oak table in the Community Room.

Looking to the future, the 75th Library Anniversary was considered, and the date of 2023 or 2024 needs to be finalized.

Members worked in the room, straightening chairs, repacking picture boxes, locating memorabilia to be given to Rosebud Preservation, and repositioning various pictures.

Members went to Highway 77 for lunch.

Skupin, Mitchell, and Stock continued in the afternoon organizing year books, mounting the slide rule once used by Mrs. Kahler, finding football/other sports framed and single pictures and deciding that they could also be displayed in an album.  The bust of Shakespeare was moved on top of the Canterbury bookcase.  WSC members are trying to give the Memorial Room a more spacious look by relocating several items.
