WSC prepares for 75th anniversary of Library

The Rosebud Wednesday Study Club held its first meeting of the New Year on Jan. 10 in the Memorial Room of the D Brown Library.

Eight members were in attendance.  Pat Runcie called the meeting to order, and Mary Ann Mitchell gave the invocation.  Flag pledges were recited.

Business went directly to plans for the 75th Anniversary Reception.  The D Brown Library will celebrate 75 years of continually serving citizens of the Rosebud area with a program at 2 pm followed by a reception on Sunday, April 28.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Carol Stock made several suggestions about using the silver punch bowl to hold ice and small bottles of water.  Small cans of soda were also suggested.  The main food will be the charcuterie cups.

Stock suggested decorated cookies with iced 75 that would be singly bagged for visitors to take home.  Our goal is for simplicity.

Bryan Arispe, a local carpenter, agreed to talk to  the group about how to stabilize and repair the large oak table in the Community Room.  He made several suggestions and prices.  All members were in agreement that the repairs should be done.

Members signed Valentines for residents of The Heritage House.

Mitchell presented several ideas for table decorations including white plastic tablecloths, decanters filled with marbles, tiny lights, and faux flowers.  The serving table will have a fresh flower arrangement and Mitchell is contacting Westphalia Roots to prepare that centerpiece.

There was discussion about invitations and Mitchell will contact Main Printing in Cameron concerning card invitations and flyers.  Flyers would be sent or hand delivered to most businesses in Rosebud.  Card invitations would be sent to city and county officials.

A possible program order was discussed.  There would be several speakers before the power point program would be shown.  Janice Ballard offered to locate a microphone and sound system.

Members headed back to the Community Room to have tomato basil soup prepared by Sheryl Fuchs and served with crackers along with corn muffins prepared by Sharon Skupin who also baked brownies for dessert.   The next meeting will be Feb. 14 whenever Mary Frances Glass will present her book review.
