Rosebud-Lott ISD Graduation to follow strict guidelines

During their monthly meeting, the Rosebud-Lott ISD Board of Trustees voted to allow a face-to-face graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Friday, May 29.

The ceremony is subject to strict guidelines due to order by the Texas Education Agency and set forth by Governor Greg Abbott.

An announcement with the procedures was released on May 21.

The ceremony will take place at Cougar Stadium, but will have limited attendance. Each graduate is being allowed five tickets and their guests will be limited to sectioned off areas on the home side of the stadium. A live-stream will be provided, though details are not yet available.

All graduates, guests, and staff will be subject to a screening upon arrival, composed of health-related questions and a temperature check.

Social distancing is expected to be followed by all ceremony attendees.

“The students will be seated on the field and spaced appropriately for social distancing,” said the announcement. “All graduates will be provided with a special RLHS mask that they will wear through the ceremony except when crossing the stage for the diploma and picture.”

As each graduate crosses the stage, one guest will be allowed to take photos, along with the hired photographer and videographer for the event.

Graduates will also receive gloves upon arriving at the stage. Those on stage will be wearing them as well to minimize contact while congratulating each senior.

The traditional throwing of the caps will take place following the ceremony, but no one else will be allowed on the field.

“I am glad that we can provide some semblance of tradition for them,” said Superintendent Steve Brownlee. “Let us work together to honor our kids with this traditional graduation ceremony but protect each other simultaneously.”
