Lady Cougars get win over Holland

The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars softball team hosted the Holland Lady Hornets on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars defeated Holland 16-6 in a game that ended in six innings due to the 10 run rule. 

After Holland scored a run in the top of the first inning, the Lady Cougars grabbed the early 3-1 lead in the Bottom of the first inning. Rosebud-Lott scored on a single by Kayley Robertson, a double by Ava Hrabal, and a sacrifice fly by Kiara Walker.

Rosebud-Lott piled on in the second inning with four more runs. The big second inning came off of a single by Robertson, a bases loaded walk by Hrabal, and a double by Walker. The Lady Cougars tallied five more runs in the third inning to widen their lead to 12-1. Rosebud-Lott’s’ big bats in the inning were led by doubles from Ava Hrabal and Kiara Walker, a single by Buhl, a sacrifice fly by Kayley Robertson, and an RBI groundout by Jacqueline Salazar. 

After Holland scored four runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, the Lady Cougars sealed the game in the sixth inning with six runs of their own to win 16-6. The runs came from a sacrifice fly from Robertson, a single from Hrabal, and consecutive bases loaded walks from Buhl and Salazar. 

The Lady Cougars racked up total 14 hits. Hrabal, Hailey Williams, Buhl, Walker, Robertson, and Jackie Maldonado all collected multiple hits for Rosebud-Lott. Hrabal led the team with three hits in three at bats. Hrabal drove in runs on a double in the first, a walk in the second, a double in the third, and a single in the sixth. Salazar pitched Lady Cougars to victory. She allowed six hits and six runs over six innings, striking out three.

Up next, Rosebud-Lott traveled to Granger on Friday to take on the Lioness. The Lady Cougars struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Granger, giving up 16 runs in a 16-6 loss that lasted six innings due to the 10 run rule. This loss gave the Lady Cougars an overall record of 11-12.

The Lady Cougars jumped up to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Both runs came when Jackie Maldonado singled on a line drive to left field. After that, Granger pulled away by scoring 11 unanswered runs, seven in the bottom of the second inning and four in the third inning. Rosebud-Lott tried to make a comeback late in the game, coming up with three runs in the fourth inning. Those runs came from an RBI fielder’s choice by Mercedes Buhl, a single by Williams, and Illeana Rodriguez drove in a run with bases loaded as she was hit by a pitch. The Lady Cougars scored another run in the fifth inning on a double by Doskocil to make their deficit 11-6.

Granger then sealed the game in the sixth inning with five runs of their own to get the win over Rosebud-Lott 16-6. Gracie Doskocil led the Lady Cougars with three hits in three at bats. Jacqueline Salazar took the loss on the mound for the Lady Cougars. Salazar allowed ten hits and 16 runs over five and a third innings, striking out two.
