Letter to the Editor

There once was a regular Church goer who wrote a “Letter to the Editor” and argued it made no sense to go to Church services every Sunday.

He wrote: “I’ve gone to Church for 30 years now, and I have heard over 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me I cannot remember a single one of them. I think that I am wasting my time and the preachers are wasting theirs by preparing sermons at all.”

That started a real controversy in the “Letter to the Editor” section of the newspaper, much to the delight of the editor. It went on week after week for over a month until someone put an end to it with his Letter to the Editor.

This man’s letter went like this: “I’ve been married for 30 years. In that time my wife has cooked me over 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu of a single meal. But I know this...all of those meals gave me nourishment and strength that I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I would be dead today! Likewise, if I had not gone to church services for some spiritual nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today.”

“Study to show thyself approved unto God. A workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word or truth.” (II Timothy 2:15)
