Cougars move to 4-1 in district with win over Granger

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team hosted the Granger Lions on Friday, March 28. The Cougars defeated the Lions, winning 9-6. 

Granger was the first to get on the scoreboard with one run in the top of the first inning aided by a Rosebud-Lott error. The Cougars answered back quickly and took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning. The runs came when Carter Doskocil walked and found his way home to score on a wild pitch and Rolando Leon scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Bo McGinniss.

Granger regained the lead in the top of the second inning with three runs helped by a few Rosebud-Lott mistakes on defense to go back ahead 4-2. 

The Cougars responded and tied the game at 4 in the bottom of the third inning thanks to Dustin Reaux coming home to score on a Granger error and an RBI ground out by Carson Layne.

Granger took the lead 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning, but Rosebud-Lott answered and retook the lead 8-5 with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

The big runs came off of a two RBI double by Kade Kleypas and poor defense by Granger that allowed the Cougars to spread their lead. Rosebud-Lott scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 9-5 lead and held strong to win 9-6.

Kade Kleypas led the team with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. Orrin Pomykal went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. The Cougars had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Pryce Rabroker earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. He allowed three hits and five runs (zero earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out 13 and walking four. 

Carter Doskocil collected the save after throwing one and one third inning in relief.

Rosebud- Lott traveled to take on the Bosqueville Bulldogs on Saturday March 29. The Cougars were defeated, losing 12-6. With this loss, 

Rosebud-Lott has an overall record of 11-6-1 and a district record of 4-1. 

After playing the Bartlett Bulldogs on the road Tuesday, the Cougars will travel to take on the Thorndale Bulldogs. The game will be Friday, April 4, and is scheduled for 7 p.m.
