Commissioners take care of county business

Rosebud-Lott High School 50+ Year Reunion was held August 2, 2025, at St. Ann’s Center in Rosebud. Alumni from graduating classes of 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975 were present for the event. The class of 1975 was the honored class, 50 years following their graduation.

Alumni and guests were welcomed to the reunion by association president, Vicki Pomykal DeShazo (Class of 1971). Opening prayer and the pledge of allegiance, were led by Mark Ellison (Class of 1975).

The following teachers and guests were recognized: Chester Springfield, Earl and Yvonne Carson, Peggy Clark, Beth Allen, Ramon Puente and Sharon Skupin. Alumni and guests who served in the Armed Services were honored and asked to stand for recognition.

Deceased classmates were remembered with a special table. Additionally, the names of the deceased were read aloud by Ruel Hoelscher (Class of 1971), Paula Chappel Beers (Class of 1972), Kathy Parks Clayton (Class of 1973), Carl Hubik (Class of 1974) and Sue Smith Sturrock (Class of 1975).

Sue Sturrock thanked the organizers of the reunion for their tireless efforts in putting together the celebration. Appreciation was expressed to Emily Willberg Herring for allowing organizational meetings to be held in the Texas Rose Building. Billy Ray and Patti Fant were recognized for providing music and PA system. Trey Asher was thanked for his efforts to organize names, addresses and pertinent information on classmates. Fran and Les Heugatter, along with members of Preservation Rosebud were recognized for offering the morning tour of museum.

Belinda Shepard Slovacek, read the treasurer’s report. Vicki DeShazzo read a letter sent to the graduating class of 1975, from their senior sponsor Carol Stock, who was unable to attend the celebration. Ramon Puente, who coached the classes of 1974 and 1975, took the opportunity to speak fondly of his time teaching at Rosebud-Lott High School. The new officers elected were Karan Killgore, President; Janie (Juanita) Tijerina Salazar, Vice President; Delores Doskoil Zipperlen, Secretary; Carroll Hudson, Treasurer; Grace Smith Fulton, Historian and Publicity manager.

Outgoing officers were thanked for their tireless efforts: Vicki Pomykal DeShazzo, President; Bernice Brenek Helpert, Vice President; Marla Zipperlen Wallace and Karan Killgore, Secretary; Belinda Shepard Slovacek, Treasurer; Karen Thrasher Blackman, Historian; Beckie Hughes Seiley, Publicity.

Larry Zabcik (Class of 1971) offered the blessing of the meal. Fajita luncheon was served by Little Joe’s BBQ. Following the meal, classmates enjoyed visiting and made plans for next year. Alumni were reminded to “save the date” for the next reunion August 1, 2026.
