What’s Bubbling in the World of Football Predictions This Week?

Hello Sports Fans.

Anyone know why the weather cooled off the last few days? Cause I took all the heat, baby! If it hadn’t been for Granger getting luckier than a single rooster in a hen house I would’ve been absolutely PURRfect.

And even though most of our home teams struggled, the ol’ Cauldron was bubbling! I predicted Sealy in a blowout over Cameron, Honey Grove over Marlin and Rosebud-Lott to win over Thrall. Bubbles was looking pretty good with a perfect 3-0 record and then Granger goes and explodes for 42 points against the T’dale Champs. So Thorndale and yours truly took that one on the chin.

But you know what, we can’t always be perfect so we’ll take our 3-1 record and head into this week’s matchups.

Maypearl at Cameron

Talk about a tale of two cities . . . oh, never mind. Dickens already did. Let’s talk about two seasons then. If the Yoes have any hopes of turning this season around, it needs to start right here and right now. Maypearl isn’t exactly a gridiron juggernaut and holds a measly 1-1 record. Sure, that’s better than Cameron’s 0-2 mark, but the Pearlies got blown out against Fairfield and then only beat little old Mart by less than four touchdowns . . . on their home field no less!

It’s time for CY to do a little CYB (hey, this is a family newspaper – you can figure it out) and get a win before the season gets too far down the road.

If this game were at the home of the Minnies (anyone else old enough to remember Minnie Pearl – How-DEEEE!), I might think differently. But I’m counting on a good home crowd, a great band and strong cheerleading to pull the boys to victory by four.

Chilton at Marlin

Let’s see, we have undefeated Chilton at 2-0 paying a visit to winless Marlin at 02. Why heck, this one’s a piece of cake, right? A team that hasn’t lost playing a team that hasn’t won. Yup, easy-peasy – Marlin wins in a rout.

Wait, what, you say? Yes siree Bob!

Marlin pummeled the Pirates last year 1,432-0. Well, OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it was almost half a hundred to nuthin’.

I expect the Bulldogs to do it again. To quote those famous football coaches Coach Steely and Coach Dan, You go back, Jack, and do it again!

Take Marlin by 18.

Dawson at Rosebud-Lott

The Cougars are on a roll. For the first time since 2021 (when the current varsity players were just a gleam in a junior high coaches’ eye), Rosebud-Wins-A-Lott is 2-0 and is about to equal that 2021 start at 3-0 after a victory this week.

Dawson isn’t exactly a pushover. The Bulldogs won their first game 48-0 before falling in a nail-biter last week, 7-0. Nail biting just ain’t something the Cougars have had to do. So far they have won two games in two outings, scoring 107 points and giving up just 14.

If you ask me – oh, I guess you are or you wouldn’t be reading this far, RL rolls by three TDs or more!

Bartlett at Thorndale

Dang it, Bulldogs – you guys cost me a perfect record last week. Here I was eyeing the Miami Dolphins and a perfect season and viola, it vanishes in the blink of a 42-21 Granger win.

What? You’re more upset about losing than me? Well, uh, yeah, OK. I guess that makes sense. Sorry – I tend to get carried away with winning sometimes. But you know what, we’re both going to get back on the winning track this week when Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations comes calling. Need a quote: Ask not what your quarterback can do for you, ask what your team can do for the district . . . or something like that.

Anywho, Thorndale rolls out of this week with a 2-1 record after a 30point victory!
