Rosebud-Lott ISD introduces high school barbecue cook-off team

Rosebud-Lott ISD has fired up a new opportunity for students with the introduction of its firstever high school barbecue cook-off team.

Under the leadership of Johnny Walker, who volunteers as the team’s mentor and coach, six student team members are honing their culinary skills in preparation for competition. Team members include Jackson Palmer, Isaiah Melendrez, Parker Peters, Wyatt Harrelson, Joseph Teeter and Ryan Dutton.

The students have been practicing every Sunday, perfecting their techniques on ribs, chicken, grilled cheese and even cakes. Their dedication has already led to a catering event scheduled in the coming weeks, giving the team a chance to serve their creations to the community.

Their first official cook-off competition is set for November, where they’ll put their hard work to the test.
