Looking Back on the Week in Volleyball Here in Milam and Falls Counties
Volleyball teams begin to wind down their regular seasons, as district play will soon close. Here’s a look at how area teams did this past week/weekend.
Monday, September 29th
Thorndale’s Lady Bulldog Middle School teams swept the 7th and 8th grade teams from Bartlett. The 7th grade team won 25-4, 25-4; 8th graders won 25-10, 25-23.
Tuesday, September 30th
The Thorndale varsity Lady Dawgs swept the McDade Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 25-18, 25-20, 2521; The JV Maroon won 2513, 25-8, and the JV Gold took home a win, 25-10, 2513.
Cameron Yoe’s varsity volleyball team (1-4, 19-11) picked up a much needed district win over the Rogers Lady Eagles in five sets, 3-2.
Buckholts Lady Badgers dropped their non-district match to Mount Calm’s Lady Panthers in three sets, 8-25, 17-25, 20-25, moving them to 9-3-1 on the season as district play begins this week.
Friday, October 3rd
The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars improved to 2-1 in district, after beating the Marlin Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-20. This puts their overall record at 13-11.
Marlin (1-2, 14-14) picked up their first district win of the season when they swept Chilton in three sets to win 3-0.
The Chilton Lady Pirates dropped two matches last week. One to Marlin on Tuesday, and the other to Bremond on Friday. The Lady Pirates are still looking for their first match win of the season.
Milano’s Lady Eagles put up a good fight against the Granger Lady Lions, before losing the match in four sets, 4-1. Milano goes to 0-2 in district, and 3-12 on the season.
Saturday, October 4th
Thorndale volleyball teams recorded another clean sweep win, defeating the Holland Lady Hornets. The varsity Lady Dawgs won their match 25-10, 25-23, 25-9; the JV Maroon swept Holland 25-13, 25-17; the JV Gold team won 25-12, 25-15.
