Are You Killing Time?

Hector Berlioz spoke a sobering truth with these words--”Time is a great teacher but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.” Sometimes people are heard to say they are just “killing time” but time cannot be killed. In spite of millions who say they are “killing time,” time is still flying by at breakneck speed. Every second takes us further along the river of time that in the end carries us into the ocean of eternity. Every day that we live, twenty-four non-refundable hours disappear, never to be seen again, no matter how long or how hard we search for them. Benjamin Franklin said, “Lost time is never found again.” We are fooling ourselves if we think we can kill time when in reality time is killing us.
We can use time or abuse time. With every tick tock of the clock time is slowly running out. For that very reason the Bible admonishes us to use our time that God has given us. Our most precious treasure is not silver or gold, but the most precious treasure is time. In Ephesians 5:1526, “See that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Jesus made the most of His time. He said, “I must work the works if Him that sent me while it is yet day; the night is coming when no man can work.” (John 9:4) Jesus was never in a hurry, but neither was He ever found “killing time.” We can’t afford to kill time because the truth of the matter is, we have no time to kill. We should always make the most of every second of every minute of every hour of the day by living and working for God.
