Charles W. “Pete” Helpert, 70 passed away August. 6, 2017. There was a celebratory mass at St. Michael’s at 85 Church Street in Burlington Texas on Wednesday August 9 at 11:00 a.m. The mass was followed immediately by a meal at the Burlington School. The graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday August 11, 2017 at Bluebonnet Cemetery located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, Texas. Charles W. Helpert “Pete” would like to let you know that he has received an offer he cannot refuse. Who knew that Heaven has a bug and weed problem requiring the oversight of an Aggie PhD (BS 1969, MS 1971, PhD 1981)? This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family (Rudolph Joseph Helpert and Anna Theresa Buxkemper) and friends he has not seen in a long time. As with any job change he will be leaving behind people that mean a great deal to him; his wife of 20 years, Anita; his sisters, Carol Pechal, Jane Sammon, and Judy Smith, their husbands, Anton, Mike and Billie; plus nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention. And last but not least his very willful but beloved dog Toddy. The Lord felt that an Aggie born June 9, 1947 and raised in the black land farming community of Burlington, Texas, was just the person to offer a position with 110 percent job security. A devout Catholic, a champion of many charities (American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Diabetes Association, etc.) and his extensive experience at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and BASF will serve Charlie well in this new opportunity. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be gardening, trapping bugs, collecting coins and taking award-winning photos. Charlie left detailed instructions for his family and friends to celebrate his work here, which has now been completed.
