Debra Elaine Washington

Debra Elaine Washington passed away June 8, 2021. 

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Cemetery in Kosse. Viewing will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 11-6 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home Chapel.  

Debra was born Aug. 1, 1953 in Ferris to Albert Edward Smith Sr. and Minnie Lee Smith (Smith). Debra wed Charles Bernard Washington on April 19, 1985, in Marlin. Debra attended Bremond and Groesbeck High School. She worked at the Marlin Veterans Administration Medical Center and Mexia State School for many years. She retired from the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple. She became a member of Shady Grove Church, Kosse, at a young age. 

Debra was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wade Edward Smith and Albert Edward Smith II; and her sisters, Ruby Washington and Alma Lee Smith.  

She is survived by her daughters, Sonya Nicole Hayes, and Charlyie Desanee Washington  of Marlin; siblings, Carolyn Wallace of Oletha, Roy Dean Smith of Rosharon, Ella Marie Smith and Helen Jean Smith of Groesbeck, Connie Sue Lee of  Beaumont, David Smith of  San Diego, Calif., and Clayton Lee Smith Sr. of  Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
