Jeffrey “Jake” Jay Hughes

Jeffrey “Jake” Jay  Hughes, 65, of Rosebud, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, in a Temple Hospital. Memorial services were held Sunday, Jan. 30, in Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Rev. Don Fulton officiated.

Mr. Hughes was born April 4, 1956, in Postville, Iowa, to Dickie and Delores Krambeer Hughes. He graduated from Postville High School. He moved to the Rosebud area in 1978 and was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for the Leon River Turkey Farms, Action Auto Recyclers, and owned Jake’s Backdoor Barbecue and Grill in Rosebud. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed jokes, fishing, hunting and Barbeque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Barry Hughes; and daughter-in-law, Renee Hughes.

He is survived by one son, Shane Hughes; adopted son, Tony Newman; daughter, Kelly Hughes; eight grandchildren, Rachel Downs and husband Jay, Hailey Woodyard, Lexi Hughes, Franklin Reeder, Carley Woodyard, Gracey Woodyard, Jakson Hughes, and Brooklyn Gorman; and one great-grandson, Logan Martinez; three brothers, Mark Hughes, Clifford Hughes, and Ted Hughes; and two sisters, Jerrine Arney and Colleen Finger.
