Joseph Andrew Tomek

Joseph Andrew Tomek, 94, of Burlington, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 in a Cameron nursing facility. Funeral services were at 10:00 am Thursday at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak with Rev. George Thirumangalam and Rev. Jim Robertson officiating. Burial followed in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery.

Family visitation was from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Mr. Tomek, a retired farmer, was born October 4, 1922 in Groveton to Karel and Frances Tomek. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He married Martha Mary Mikula on January 28, 1947 and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2009, he had also worked as a school custodian.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Alfons, Charlie, Ludwig, Frank, Peter; by Sisters Frances Roper and Sister Juliana; by grandson John Paul Meier and sons-in-law, John Hall and Joe Hammermeister.

His son George Tomek & wife Veronica of Cameron survive him. Daughters, Theresa Meier & husband Johnny of Temple, Rebecca Hall of Richardson, Josie Tinnin & husband Stan of Rosebud, Kathy Bailey & husband Bobby of Rosebud, Ruth Coker of Rosebud, Andrea Hammermeister of Rosebud, Julia Coker & husband Eddie of Rosebud and brother Stanley Tomek of Temple. 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren also, His “favorite daughter” Annette Tynes – of hospice.
