Lois Marie Sowders Nutt

Lois Marie Sowders Nutt passed away on July 2, 2019, in Waco, Texas. 

Services were held at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin on July 6, 2019, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation with the family was from 5- 7 p.m. on July 5, 2019, at Adams Funeral Home. 

Lois was born on July 10, 1928, in Marlin, to George and Lora Stone Sowders. She was a lifelong resident of Marlin. 

On Oct. 20, 1945, Lois married Thomas Richard (Tommy) Nutt after his return from service in the Army during World War II. They opened the City Cleaners in 1948, and worked together in the business until Tommy’s death in May of 1977. After his death, Lois continued to operate the business with the help of family and faithful employees until 2009. She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Marlin, and for many years participated in the Ruth Sunday School Class. Lois’s main focus in life was her faith in the Lord and her family. 

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tommy; her brothers, Willard, James, and Hildred Sowders; and her sisters, Vera Feldman, Frances Nutt, and Shirley Quilter. 

Survivors include her daughter, Bobbie Whitt and husband Lonnie; and her daughter, Patty Notgrass and husband David. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tracie Adams, Thomas Ehlers, and Richard Notgrass and his wife Hollis; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  

Pallbearers were Darwin Bowser, David Notgrass, Richard Notgrass, Bradley Nutt, David Nutt and Ronnie Nutt. Honorary pall bearers were Thomas Ehlers, Donald Feldman, Danny Nutt, Dennis Nutt, James Wellman and Lonnie Whitt. 

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Lakeshore Village Healthcare Center for all the love and attention they gave Lois during the time she resided there. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Marlin, 309 Coleman St., Marlin, TX, 76661.
