RANDOLPH GREEN

Mass of the Christian Burial for Randolph Richard Green, 91, of Cyclone was held Tuesday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m.at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. Mr. Green died Thursday, September 21, 2017.

Visitation and rosary was held at St. Joseph’s Monday, September 25, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Green was born November 24, 1925, to Leo William (Sam) and Leona Dolle Green.  

He attended Cyclone Public School and graduated from Rogers High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army with the 40th Infantry Division from 1944-1946, seeing active duty in the Philippines and with the Army of Occupation in South Korea.

He married Evelyn Catherine Beach on May 20, 1947, at Church of the Visitation in Westphalia.

He worked as a carpenter, building contractor, and farmer in Cyclone. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was a choir member, lay lector, and bell ringer.  

Mr. Green was a devoted servant of his church and community in numerous capacities throughout his life.

He was a member of St. Isidore KC Council #10191 of Cyclone-Marak and a charter member of St. Joseph’s Cemetery Board, serving as secretary-treasurer for ten years.

In 2007, the Catholic Diocese of Austin honored Mr. and Mrs. Green with the Lumen Gentium Award for exemplary stewardship, leadership, and ministry to the Church.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6117 of Westphalia, serving as quartermaster for ten years; a member of the Board of Directors of the East Bell County Water Supply Corporation, serving as secretarytreasurer for ten years and as president for two years; and a member of the Rogers School Board for thirteen years.

Besides farming and ranching in Bell County, he worked as a carpenter-contractor, building custom homes all over the area. He retired from building in 1988 after 40 years and 125 homes.

He was preceded in death by four infant children; his parents, Leo William (Sam) and Leona Dolle Green; one sister, Lucille Greener; and a beloved son-in-law, Rusty Osborne.

Surviving him are his wife of 70 years, Evelyn; five sons, Richard Green of Cyclone, Thomas Green (Fran) of Arlington, Michael Green (Martha) of Graham,  Robert Green (Luci) of Riverside, California, and James Green (Jodie) of Dallas; six daughters, Margaret Hejny (Don) of Johnson City, Marian Chervenka (Rod) of Austin, Cecilia Green Osborne of Austin, Barbara Nye of Maleny, Australia, Anita Skinner (Kent) of Monticello, Arkansas, and Joan Vanicek (Brian) of Temple; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Oleta Wilde of Cyclone, Rachel Green of Temple, and Anne Green of Temple; one brother, Joe Green (Janet) of Brenham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed dove hunting so much he had plans to go days before he passed. He will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lavern Barron Powell in February 1993; his companion for many years, Malinda Kinsey on September 4,2017; and his sister, Mary Katherine Vasicek.  

He is survived by his son, Darryl Wayne Powell of Waco; his step-sons, Cliff Kinsey of Hillsboro, Bobby Anderson of Moody; his daughters, Liz Clark of Marble Falls, Robin Williams of Marble Falls, Sandy Marek of Rosebud, and Judy Robbins of Salem, Virginia; his step-daughters, Melody Babiszewski of Moody, Tammy Lawson Cooper of San Antonio, Shanna Kinsey of Hubbard, and Ann Kinsey Turner of Belton; one sister, Jane Ann Powell of Barclay; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
