Are you missing the boat with God?

There once was a story about a preacher who had to rush one Sunday morning in order to make it on time for a preaching appointment. His trip involved catching a ferryboat and he was running late. So he hurried out the front door and jumped into his car only to realize that he had forgotten his keys.

When he finally arrived at the dock, the ferryboat was only a short distance away. Thinking he had missed the boat, he ran as fast as he could and jumped onto the ferryboat.

“Are you out of breath?” a stranger asked. “Yes,” the preacher replied. “I had to run and catch this ferry.” “Why?” asked the stranger. “This ferry is coming into shore and not going out!”

Upon closer examination, our worries often make us look silly. Anxieties about what may happen in the future frequently have no substance in reality. Regardless of its substance, in the end, our worries often make us look as foolish as the preacher rushing to catch the incoming ferry.

Remember that God holds the future in His hands and that Jesus is “the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:10) If we will focus on God and His kingdom, the worries and anxieties of life will no longer occupy an exaggerated place of importance. Spend time in prayer and allow God to help us with our pressing burdens. Otherwise, you may, indeed, miss the boat.
