Did you remember to light your candle?

One day a circus owner walked into a restaurant to see everyone crowded around a table watching a little show. On the table was an upside-down pot and a duck tap dancing on it.

The circus owner was so impressed that he offered to buy the duck from the restaurant owner. Now after some wheeling and dealing, the two men settled on a price of $10,000 for the duck and the pot.

Three days later the circus owner storms back into the restaurant and finds the owner and very angry he tells him, “Your duck is a rip-off!”

He said, “I put the duck on the pot, and charged a big crowd to come and see the tap dancing duck and he didn’t dance a single step!”

“So?” asked the ducks former owner, “Did you remember to light the candle under the pot?”

Well, that might be one reason that someone would put a lighted candle under a pot, but that’s not what candles are for.

As Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, candles are meant to “give light to all that are in the house.” I

n like manner, our Christian lives are to shine before men. “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

We should be a positive influence on others around us. The truth is, unless our lives are reflecting the light of Jesus Christ, the world will influence us.

So the question is, “Did you remember to light your candle?”
