God’s good news for you

There once was a young boy standing on the street corner selling newspapers. He was yelling out, “Read all about it. Fifty people swindled! Fifty people have been swindled!”

Very curious, a man walked over and bought a newspaper and checked the front page. Finding nothing, the man said, “There’s nothing here about fifty people being swindled.” The boy ignored him and went on calling out, “Read all about it, fifty-one people swindled!”

Not all news is good news. Paul Harvey once noted that if it is not black, bleak, or bloody, then it won’t make the front page. Anne Murray once had a popular song years ago, “we sure could use a little good news today.” But when we read and study our Bibles we find that is exactly what the Bible has to offer, and that is good news. Some 2,000 years ago, when an angel appeared to shepherds near Bethlehem, they had good news.

“I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. No greater news has ever been heard.”

Someone once said: If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us His very best, and that was His Son. Bad new abounds everywhere. Could you use some good news today? Jesus Christ is God’s good news to all of us. Pick up your Bibles and read and study the Good News.
