His last week

As Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem a week before His death, people lined the streets and knew He must be important, but they were not sure who He was. “When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, Who is he?” (Matthew 21:10)

The whole city was stirred? That is unbelievable. People still did not know Him. Yet crowds were going ahead of Him and laying down palm leaves and their cloaks so the animal He rode would have a smooth entrance into the city. Great crowds went ahead of Him and shouted praise and adoration for all to hear.

How would we get ready to receive Jesus if we knew He would travel down our streets today? I would just imagine we would make sure the streets were swept and cleaned. I think we would line the streets early and make sure we would want to be sure we got a good look at Jesus. At this point in His life, He has only one week to live. He knew He had some really trying days ahead. He knew His life was nearing an end He knew the suffering He had to endure was just a week away.

This Sunday we will all be celebrating Easter Sunday. We will celebrate the greatest event to ever take place. On the third day our Lord and Savior is raised from the dead just like he said He would. As we celebrate this week and this special day, let’s all remember to give thanks to God for giving us His only Son and to make this great sacrifice for all mankind. Happy Easter to each and everyone.
