More than we can ask or imagine

Do we ever really ever stop and think about the true power of God? Have you ever stopped to imagine that if God can speak this universe into existance, if He can create everything in this world from nothing, then there is absolutely nothing that He can’t do.

There was a 60 year-old couple that was celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. During the celebration, a genie appeared to them and said, “Because you have been such a loving couple all these years, I would like to give each of you just one wish!” The wife quickly chimed in, “I want to travel around the world.” The genie waved his arms and POOF! She had the tickets in her hands. Next it was the husbands turn. He paused for a moment and said, “Well, I would like to have a wife that is thirty years younger than me!” The genie waved his arms and POOF! He was 90 years old.

How many of us at some point in time has said, “If a genie would grant me three wishes what would I wish for?” God is not as some imagine Him. He is not some magic genie waiting at our beck and call to give us everything we ask. As the Apostle Paul writes, “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” (Ephesians 3:20) God can not only do what I ask of Him, He is able to do more than I ask of Him. When things in life are beyond our control, I find comfort in knowing that God has such power. And He even loves me so much that he gave His only Son to die on the cross for my sins.
