New Year Begins Any Time

Weekly Devotional

One November, a family went down to the local dealership and ordered a brand new automobile.

They began to clean out the old car and someone muttered, "How did we accumulate so much junk?"

The family sorted through the old maps, dried-up ballpoint pens, old receipts and even some loose change. The family made a resolution that day to keep their new car clean and do everything to keep the new car functioning properly.

Now there's a connection between a new car and the new year that has just begun. The first order of business is to clear out the clutter, discard the useless, remove the dust and dirt and begin fresh!

A new year can begin anytime in our lives. We can sort out the old attitudes, clean out our minds of envy, toss out all of our bad habits of gossip and carrying grudges. We can even keep our promises and curb our anger.

Maybe a lot of things in our past need discarding. Some things we collect in our lives need to be trashed.

Paul wrote, "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds." (Colossians 3:8-9)

Isn't it amazing how a brand new car changes your life? None of the old squeaks, rattles and knocks. Cruising down the road in a brand new car is a delight. S

o is the journey ahead, if we can truly forget things in the past and press onto greater things. I hope each and everyone has a great 2021.
