A room full of crosses

How often do we stop and count our blessings? We should never forget that each of us are some of the most blessed people in all the world, despite our circumstances. Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.

There was a story told of a young man that was at the end of his rope. He felt as though he had tried everything he knew to do to remedy his situation. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees and begin to pray.

“Lord, I can’t go on,” he said. “I have to heavy of a cross to bear.”

The Lord replied, “My son, if you can’t bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then open that door and pick out any cross you wish.”

The man was filled with relief. “Thank you Lord,” he sighed and did as he was told. Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large that the tops were not visible. Then he spotted a small cross leaning against a far wall.

“I would like that one,” he whispered. The Lord replied,”My son, that is the cross that you just brought in!”

The lesson the young man learned was the same lesson you and I need to learn. That when life’s problems seem overwhelming, we should look around and see the problems of others. When we do, we will find out that we are far more fortunate than we can ever imagine. Now just stop and think, when was the last time you stopped and looked around and really counted your blessings?
