We are never alone

There is a legend of the Cherokee Indian boy’s rite of passage. His dad takes him deep into the forest. He is blindfolded and he is left alone. The Indian boy is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not take the blindfold off until the rays of the sun shines through it.

He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night he is a MAN! He cannot tell the other boys of his experience. Each boy must come to his own manhood.

The boy’s dad takes him into the forest, sits him on a stump and he begins to hear all kinds of noises. He just knows there are all kinds of wild animals around him. The wind blows and the night is long. But he sat stoically on the stump, never removing the blindfold.

That was the only way he could become a man. Finally the night is over. He can see the sun peak through his blindfold. When he removes his blindfold, he finds his dad sitting sitting next to him on the stump all night long.

You and I are the same way. We are never alone. God is always there protecting us.

God tell us, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God.” (Isaiah 41:10) Jesus tells us, “And lo I am with you alway, even to the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:20) Isn’t it great to know that we are never alone?
