Rio De Janeiro contains the world’s largest soccer stadium with a capacity of 200,000. It is an awesome spectacle when it is full. It can also be very dangerous.
On Sunday, July 19, 1992, the stadium was filled to the brim for the national soccer championship game. On one of the upper levels of the stadium a large number of people were crowded against a guardrail that was the only thing separating them from a lengthy plunge into the stands below.
