Worms For Feathers

There was a fable of a skylark that came from a noble skylark family. He loved to fly high above the earth and sing beautiful melodies. One thing he did not like was the daily work of having to dig worms in order to receive nourishment and stay alive.

You can imagine how excited he was when one day, while soaring high above the earth, he saw a little man dressed in a scarlet coat walking down the road and hollering, “Earth worms for sale. Earth worms traded for skylark feathers.” The skylark zoomed down to the man and said, “What’s the deal?” “Two worms for just one feather,” the man answered. “Try it. It’s a good deal.” So the skylark tried it and liked it. After all, he had so many feathers.
