Your king

Several years ago there was a band of musicians that traveled about from town to town singing and playing their music in hope of making a living.

They had not been doing well financially, however. Times were hard and the common people had little money to spend on concerts, even though their fee was small.

The group met one evening to discuss their situation. “I see no reason for opening tonight,” one man said. “It is snowing outside and no one will come out on a night like this.”

Another said, “I agree. Last night we performed for just a handful and even fewer will come out tonight.”

The leader of the band responded, “I know that you are discouraged and I am too. But we have a responsibility to those who might come. We will go on and we will do the best job we are capable of doing. It is not the fault of those who come that others do not. They should not be punished with less than our best.”

Encouraged by his words, the musicians gave their besr performance ever. After the show, the leader called his group back together again. In his hand was a note handed to him by one of the audience members just before the doors closed behind him.

Slowly the man read, “Thank you for a beautiful performance.” It was signed simply, “Your KIng.”

Everything we do, everywhere we go and everything we say should be done in a way as though our King is in the audience - Because He is!

He should never get less than the best we have to offer. Sure, there are times when we get discouraged and wonder if what we are doing is making a difference to anyone, including ourselves. But what we have to remember is that we are not performing before men, we are performing for God.

Paul writes, “So whether we eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I Cor. 10:31) Now, let’s ask ourselves, “How are we doing?”
