Lieutenant Hirro Onada was the last Japanese soldier to surrender after World War II. He was left on the island Lugang in the Philippines in 1944----along with three other soldiers.
Some years ago there was a shipwreck off the Pacific Northwest coast. A crowd of fishermen in a nearby village gathered to watch the ship as it was smashed on the rocks.
I would like to take time out as we end the school year for 2017- 18 and give a word of thanks and appreciation to the coaches and athletes from all the schools it has been my pleasure to cover.
