New SNAP Purchase Restrictions Take Effect April 1
AUSTIN – The Texas Health and Human Services Commission reminds Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients that they can no longer buy candy or sweetened drinks with their Lone Star Cards in Texas starting April 1, 2026.
Texas Women Finally Get The Vote
The Texas house of representatives passed the Primary Election Bill on Mar. 16, 1918, and ten days later Gov. William P. Hobby made it official in a special signing ceremony at the state capitol. At long last the women of Texas got the vote.

“[‘Tis] one of my favorite things my mother, Evelyn, used to make for our family of four in West Columbia, Texas. I was seven years old in 1958 and, partaking along with my two sisters, I can still recall the first taste of this exquisitely moist, spiced fig cake. Preservation Rosebud Visits Milam County Museum
The last day of February offered beautiful spring-like weather for twelve members of Preservation Rosebud to visit the Milam County Museum. Immediately after their quarterly meeting at the Rosebud Museum, everyone carpooled to Cameron. President Les Heugatter’s passengers were Fran Heugatter, Caroline Akers Wright, lris Sharp, and Becky Meacham. The caravan also included Greg and Marla Wallace, James Prothro, Alfred Martinez, Ken Hensel, and Joe and Sharon Saunders.
