This Week’s Volleyball Action From Area Teams

Many of the areas teams are coming off tournament play from the previous weekend, only to turn around and do it again this past weekend. We even have a team (Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars) competing as far away as Hawaii! That’s – let me calculate – somewhere between 3,700 to 3,900 miles, depending on destination! They’ll be in familiar company, as a few other teams from Texas will be joining them in the tournament.

Speaking of, the Lady Cougars improved to (7-3) Tuesday night at home, with their win over the Moody Lady Bearcats, 2515, 26-24, 23-25, 25-21.

Meanwhile, at home, the Thorndale Lady Bulldogs took one on the chin against the Rockadale Lady Tigers, falling to their opponent after wining the first set but dropping the next three. Final score, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 21-25. The Lady Bulldogs really played a close match! The junior varsity Maroon Lady Bulldogs won their match, sweeping Rockdale 25-13, 25-14, while the JV Gold Lady Bulldogs did their best to hang tight against Rockdale’s JV Lady Tigers, falling to them by the score of, 20-25, 22-25.

This past weekend, Thorndale volleyball competed in the Academy Tournament. Results from that tournament will be in the next edition.

The Marlin Lady Bulldogs (9-9) competed in the Killeen volleyball tournament, that was held at Killeen High School. On the first day of play, August 28, the Lady Bulldogs swept the Waco Lady Lions, 2515, 25-20, then went on to defeat the Lampasas Lady Badgers, 28-26, 22-25, 2513, for their second tournament win. Marlin was scheduled to play host Killeen, but due to our early deadline, results of the rest of the tournament will be in the next edition.

The Class 1A, No. 12 ranked Buckholts Lady Badgers picked up their fourth straight match victory last Tuesday, sweeping the Waelder Lady Wildcats, 25-12, 25-13, 259, to improve to (5-2) on the season. Buckholts played Cen-Tex HomeSchool’s Lady Chargers on Friday night. Scores from that match will be available in our next edition.

The Lady Yoe of Cameron played a tough match against Mumford, taking the Lady Mustangs to five sets. Final tally, 25-20, 2624, 20-25, 19-25, 8-15, in favor of Mumford. Cameron’s JV Maroon Lady Yoe won their match, sweeping the JV Lady Mustangs in two sets, 2523, 25-12. The Lady Yoe played in the Richards Tournament over the weekend.

No match scores have been reported from Chilton or Milano. A reminder that scores can be sent by email to: sports@cameronherald. com, or by text to sports editor Stephen R. Farris at (903) 229-8180. It only takes less than a minute or two to send them. Game stats would be a big plus as well.
