Cougars have successful week in Basketball

Both teams score a back-to-back win

The Rosebud-Lott Cougar varsity basketball teams each played three matches this week and came out on top in two of them.

In the Tuesday game against Bosqueville, the Cougars fought hard but came out just three points shy of a tie. Standout Jordan Landrum made a total of seven three-point field goals and gained a total of 23 points. The game ended in a final score of 61-58.

In the following game against the Moody Bearcats on Friday night, Jonathan Adamez, Nathan Truesdale and John Reyna were standouts in the process to winning the game. Adamez had a total of 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Truesdale also scored 16 points. Reyna nabbed 17 rebounds total in his first game back on the court. The score came to 51-39.

The Saturday afternoon bout against Bruceville-Eddy faired the same way, with the Rosebud-Lott boys taking over the scoreboard fairly early. Reyna, Landrum, Adamez and Truesdale were vital players on the way to a 22 point lead. The match came to a final score of 63-41. Landrum scored 28 points, while Truesdale and Adamez each scored 10. Reyna had 10 rebounds throughout the game.

The Lady Cougars got on similarly, only failing to top Bosqueville. The ladies fought their way through each game, playing against well-matched opponents. The Bosqueville gals came out only four points ahead, at 30-26. In Friday’s match against Moody, the Lady Cougs came out with the same lead, at 40-36. Saturday’s game against Bruceville-Eddy, a long-awaited game thanks to multiple rescheduling necessities, looked to be a tough one. The Lady Cougars put in their all until the end and came out only two points ahead, at 39-37.

Both teams were prepped to play Crawford on Tuesday night; scores will be available next week. Before that game, the Cougars were 3-2 in district and sitting in fourth place behind Crawford, Meyer and Bosqueville. The Lady Cougars were in third, behind Bruceville-Eddy and Crawford, and were at 5-2 in district.

Both Cougar teams face the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles for the second time in seven days on Friday night. The Eagles may be ready for a rematch, but the Cougars are ready to roar.
