RL Cross Country heading to regionals; McGinnis named District Champion

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars dominated at Thursday’s cross country meet at Moody. There were three qualifiers for regionals this year. Senior McKenzie McGinniss rocked it out with a personal best of 13:36.6 for the two-mile run, in turn scoring herself a spot as district champion.

“It was a full sprint at the end to win it,” exclaimed RL volleyball coach Amanda Spencer.

McGinnis made it to the finish line with 1.8 seconds to spare. She, as well as tenth place finisher and fellow senior, Emma Hering, will be the two females moving on to regionals this month.

Nixon Frias finished seventh in the three-mile varsity boys with a time of 19:20.9, also scoring himself a spot at regionals. Sophomore Jason Allison barely missed his own change at participating in the next meet, reaching the finish line 7.8 seconds behind the tenth place finisher.

The JV teams did exceptionally well at the Moody meet as well, with Trey Krumnow scoring the JV District Champ spot by a long shot. Fabiola Fajardo, Chloe Pickens, and Gizelle Aldana were in the top 10 and each brought home a medal as well.

“All of the athletes ran well and had a personal best,” Spencer said. “ Each and every one of the 16 runners gave it their all.”

Nixon, McGinnis, and Hering will be heading down to Huntsville for the regional meet next Tuesday, Nov. 10.
