Area Cross-Country Teams Up for the Challenge at District Meets

Area junior high and high school cross-country teams competed at their respective district meets this past week, with several teams advancing to regionals. Here are the results from last weeks district meets.

Chilton JH/HS

Chilton’s junior high cross-country team placed third at the 17-2A district meet held at Axtell High School last Wednesday.

In the JH Boys 2 Mile Run, Carlos Castenda placed fourth with a time of 13:09.12, Chris Carrizales placed sixth with a time of 13:16.89, and Jermiah Salas finished ninth with a time of 13:45.04 rounding out the Top 10. Other runners finishing the course for Chilton were Gilberto Hernandez, Atticus Cohan, Damien Dominguez, Heston Jones, and Dominic Navarro.

The junior high girls competed in the JH Girls 2 Mile Run and came home in second- place overall. The Chilton team had five runners finish in the Top 20. Kennedi Huitt placed 11th, Eliana Rivera finished 13th, Yasmen Redrick 17th, Ryleigh Hall 18th, and Ke’asjah Brooks placed 20th. Also finishing for the junior high girls were Mireili Salazar, Emily Gonzales, Trinity Washington, Brylee Mckee, and Andrea Salazar.

In the JV Boys 3 Mile Run, Jisiah Rivera placed third with a time of 20:11.06, Xander Nowaski finished in the eighth spot with his time of 24:30.93, and Qourtney Washington finished 10th with a time of 25:37.30. Jordyn Bass finished the course, placing 15th.

For the JV Girls 3 Mile Run, Chilton’s Magoli Lara took third with a time of 16:03.79, Rosa Aguillen placed sixth with a time of 17:01.60, Elisa Banks finished ninth with a time of 18:38.37, and Harmoni Thomas came in at 11th with a time of 21:21.96.

Moving up to the varsity girls, Yarida De Leon added another first place finish to her impressive resume, and had a time of 11:59.61 to advance to regionals. Natally Flores placed 10th with a time of 14:15.97, Gabrielle Tyler took 23rd, Kennison Huitt 25th, Zanoviah Coleman 26th, and Natika Thomas finished 29th.

Milano JH/HS

Kaden Yakesch, placed 10th at the District 27-2A cross-country meet held at Lake Granger last week, and will be advancing to Regionals in Corpus Christi.

Buckholts JH/HS

Varsity Boys: Anthony Mendez 6th place medalist & region qualifier 4th place finish as a team, with runners Mendez, Braxton Reese, Johandy Ventura, Enrique Ventura, and Ely Reese all placing in the meet.

Varsity Girls: Caylee Velez was the 5th place medalist & region qualifier

MS Boys: Malachi Duarte 5th place medalist, Iker Castro 10th place medalist MS Girls:Hope Hernandez 4th place medalistm Adalina Duarte 5th place medalist 1st place team, and district champions – Duarte, Delilah Wiggins, Lexi Hernandez, and Jaylin Freeman.
