Cougars compete at own tournament

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars boys basketball team hosted their in-season tournament during the weekend of Dec. 27-28. 

Rosebud-Lott played two games on Thursday, the first was against the Chaparral Bobcats JV team. The Cougars were victorious, winning in a 46-45 thriller. The second game was against the Cameron Yoemen, and the Cougars were defeated 44-39. 

Cameron scored first then Rosebud-Lott answered with a basket by Pryce Rabroker (10) to tie the score at 2. The Cougars stayed aggressive with a three point make by Braxton Mast (11) to make it a 7-2 lead. Rosebud-Lott continued to show deep range with a three point make by Kaiden Johnson (3) to extend their lead to 13-2. The Cougars finished the first quarter ahead 15-2 after a buzzer beating layup by Mast. The Cougars started the second quarter with a 4-0 run aided with a three point make by Brayden Warner (20) for a 19-2 advantage. Rosebud-Lott finished the quarter with a layup by Warner to take a 23-4 lead going into halftime. 

Cameron opened the third quarter with a 5-0 run to make the score 23-9. The Cougars ended their drought with a three pointer by Mast in the fourth minute for a 26-9 advantage. Cameron continued to rally back and closed the gap to 26-23. The Cougars halted their momentum with a basket by Johnson to make it a 28-23 lead. The third quarter ended with Rosebud-Lott ahead 29-25.

The first points of the fourth quarter for Rosebud-Lott was a layup by Mast for a 31-28 advantage. Cameron marched back and took their first lead of the second half at 32-31. The Cougars retook the lead with a layup by Warner to make the score 33-32. The remainder of the game stayed even until the Yoemen pulled ahead to win 44-39. 

Rosebud-Lott played one final game Saturday. Due to press deadlines, the final results will be shown next week. After the games on Friday, Rosebud-Lott now has a record of 6-8 with a district record of 0-1.
