Cougars defeat Holland 10-0 to move to 3-1 in district

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team hosted the Holland Hornets on Friday, March 21.

The Cougars shut out the Hornets, winning 10-0 in five innings due to the 10 run rule being enforced. Rosebud-Lott jumped out in front with three runs in the top of the second inning to lead 3-0.

The runs came from Carson Kahlig hitting an RBI ground out and Kade Kleypas hitting a line drive two RBI single to right field. The Cougars extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning when Orrin Pomykal hit a two RBI single to center field.

Rosebud-Lott added on with five more runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull away 10 and eventually activate the 10 run rule. Dustin Reaux doubled, driving in two runs, Rolando Leon hit an RBI ground out, bringing in one run, and the Cougars took advantage of a Holland defensive error to score the other two runs.

Bo McGinniss went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Reaux and Pomykal each drove in two runs for Rosebud-Lott.

Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game and also showed great base running, stealing five bases on the day. Along with being a threat at the plate, Bo McGinniss was also dominant on the mound, as he rang up 13 strikeouts and allowed just two hits and zero runs over five innings while walking one.

With this victory, Rosebud-Lott has a record of 9-5-1 and a district record of 3-1. After playing the China Spring Cougars JV team at home Tuesday, the Cougars will remain home to host the Granger Lions. The game will be Friday, March 28, and is scheduled for 7 p.m.
