Cougars demolish Chilton

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team hosted the Chilton Pirates on Friday April 11. The Cougars demolished the Pirates, winning 21-0 in five innings due to the 10 run rule being enforced.

Rosebud-Lott pulled away early in the first inning with 11 runs and never looked back. Rolando Leon, Bo McGinniss, Kade Kleypas, Pryce Rabroker, Dustin Reaux, and Carson Kahlig all fueled the massive inning.

The Cougars continued the onslaught and scored six more runs in the second inning to go up 17-0. Kleypas singled, bringing in one run, Kahlig hit an RBI ground out, driving in one run, Carter Doskocil singled, bringing in one run, McGinniss hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Carson Layne doubled, driving in two runs. The Cougars extended their lead with four more unanswered runs (three in the third inning and one in the fourth inning) to make the score 21-0, which would be the final score. The Cougars accumulated 11 hits in the game.

McGinniss and Leon were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as they each drove in three runs for Rosebud-Lott. Rolando Leon collected four hits in four at bats to lead the team in the win.

Rosebud-Lott had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. The Cougar defense was unstoppable and didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Braxton Mast earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. He pitched a gem as he struck out 10 batters and gave up zero hits and zero runs over five innings while walking two.

The Cougars hosted the Cameron Yoemen on Saturday April 12. Rosebud-Lott was victorious, winning the game in dramatic fashion with a 9-8 walk-off victory. Cameron was the early aggressor and marched in front with an 8-0 lead. They scored four runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning, and one in the third inning.

The Cougars broke the drought in the bottom of the third inning with one run to make the score 8-1. The run came when led off with a walk and found his way home to score on an RBI single to center field by Carter Doskocil.

Rosebud-Lott continued to claw back with two runs in the fourth inning, then tied the game at 8 in the fifth with five runs. The big fifth inning was fueled by a triple by Carson Kahlig, a ground out by Carter Doskocil, a bases loaded walk by Kade Kleypas, and a double by Pryce Rabroker.

The game was still tied at 8 in the bottom of the seventh when Carson Layne came up clutch with an RBI double to right field, driving in the winning run to beat Cameron 9-8.

Kahlig set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the team with two hits in three at bats. Rabroker and Doskocil each drove in two runs for Rosebud-Lott.

The Cougars had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Along with being a threat at the plate, Carson Kahlig also earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. He gave up zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning of relief, striking out none and walking none. Rolando Leon pitched five innings in relief as well. He surrendered two hits and one run while striking out five and walking five. Pryce Rabroker led things off on the hill for Rosebud-Lott. He allowed one hit and seven runs (one earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking six. With this victory, Rosebud-Lott has an overall record of 15-7-1 and a district record of 7-2. After playing the Holland Hornets at home Tuesday, the Cougars will not play Friday as it will be their off day.
