Cougars end season in third
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team traveled to play the Thorndale Bulldogs on Friday. Rosebud-Lott fell to Thorndale 9-3. The game was tied at one after three innings, then the Bulldogs pulled away for good, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning.
The very next day, Rosebud-Lott hosted the Granger Lions. The Cougars defeated Granger 16-6 in five innings due to the ten run rule.
Granger started the scoring in the top of the first inning, then Rosebud-Lott responded and took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ben Ford hit an RBI groundout, scoring two runs. The other two runs were scored on a single by Rolando Leon and a sacrifice fly by Carson Kahlig. The game was tied at six with the Cougars batting in the bottom of the fourth inning when they exploded with eight runs to go up 16-6 and activate the ten run rule.
The Cougars big bats were led by Breon Lewis, Ford, Kade Kleypas, Logan Kleypas, Lewis, and Rolando Leon, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Rosebud-Lott collected nine hits in the game. Jeremy Ellison and Rolando Leon all had multiple hits for the Cougars. Jeremy Ellison started the game on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. He allowed three hits and five runs over three innings, striking out six. Rawling Barton got the win for the Cougars. The righthander surrendered one run on zero hits over two innings, striking out three.
With the win, the Cougars fiinish third in district play.
Up next for Rosebud-Lott will host a warm up game for the playoffs with the defending state champion Valley Mills Eagles. The game will be on Friday and first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
