Cougars fall to Goldthwaite
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars football team traveled to take on the Goldthwaite Eagles on Friday. The Cougars fell to Wortham, losing 40-27, keeping them winless on the year at 0-3.
The Eagles put themselves on the scoreboard first with a touchdown pass to go up 7-0. Rosebud-Lott responded with a 9-yard touchdown run by DeeJayy Hicks to tie the game at 7. Goldthwaite pulled away in the second half, scoring 26 unanswered points to go into halftime leading 33-7.
The Eagles increased their lead with the only score of the third quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run to make it a 40-7 deficit for Rosebud-Lott.
The Cougars answered with 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including a fumble returned for a touchdown by Yahir Mendoza and a 76-yard touchdown pass from Pryce Rabroker to Jamarquis Johnson. However, it would not be enough to complete the comeback and they would lose to Goldthwaite 40-27.
Pryce Rabroker had a good game, throwing for 197 yards and a touchdown. DeeJayy Hicks contributed big, rushing for 54 yards and a touchdown. Carson Kahlig also had a great game , catching six passes for 62 yards. Jamarquis Johnson was fantastic, catching seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
The Cougars will not be playing next week as it will be their bye week.
Up next for Rosebud-Lott, they will host the Crawford Pirates for their home opener and district opener. The game will be on Friday, Sept. 22, and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
