Cougars fall to Harper in bi-district round of playoffs

The Harper Longhorns brought the Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball season to an end over teh weekend.

The Cougars ttraveled to Dripping Springs High School to play the Harper Longhorns for the bi-district round of the playoffs. 

Rosebud-Lott came close but fell to Harper, losing the series 2-1. Game 1 was on Friday, and the Cougars were shut out by Harper, losing 9-0. Game 2 was on Saturday, and Rosebud-Lott evened up the series, beating the Longhorns 8-7.

The Cougars got on the board in the top of the first inning with two runs, both coming on RBI ground outs, then Harper responded with a run of their own. Rosebud-Lott scored two runs in the top of the second, then Harper Longhorns once again answered with two of their own.  Cougars scored when Rolando Leon singled on a line drive to right field, driving in two runs.  Harper Longhorns then answered with two consecutive RBI singles. 

The game was tied at four with Rosebud-Lott batting in the top of the sixth when they retook the lead with two runs to go up 6-4. The Cougars built a four-run lead in the seventh inning and then held off the Longhorns comeback attempt. Harper scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it would not be enough as Rosebud-Lott held on strong to win 8-7 and force a game 3.

Rosebud-Lott tallied six hits in the game. Bo McGinniss and Rolando Leon both managed multiple hits for the Cougars. Bo McGinniss led things off on the hill for Cougars. The righty allowed three hits and four runs over three innings, striking out one. Jeremy Ellison pitched four innings in relief out of the bullpen. He allowed three runs, all unearned, on two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Later that day, Rosebud-Lott played the crucial game 3. They would fall to Harper 6-4 to bring their season to an end. The Cougars got on the scoreboard first with a run in the second inning, then Harper would score six unanswered runs. Rosebud-Lott tried to rally back with two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh, but it was not enough and they would fall to Harper 6-4 and lose the series 2-1. 

Jeremy Ellison led things off on the mound for the Cougars. He went two and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out one and walking zero. Breon Lewis threw four and two-thirds innings in relief. He allowed two runs on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
