Cougars get big win over Bremond
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team hosted the Bremond Tigers on Tuesday, March 12.
The Cougars shut out Bremond, winning 11-0 in five innings.
Rosebud-Lott began the scoring in the second inning with four runs, starting with Matt Lopez earning a single and came home to score from third base on a balk by the Bremond pitcher. That was soon followed with a line drive double to center field by Carson Layne, scoring three runs. The Cougars added two more runs in the third inning. Kade Kleypas doubled on a line drive to center field, making the score 6-0.
Rosebud-Lott increased their lead with five more runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two of the runs came from a bases-loaded walk by Matt Lopez and Kade Kleypas coming home to score on a passed ball that got by the catcher. The other three runs came off a fielding error on a fly ball to left field from Orrin Pomykal, bringing in three more runs.
Carson Layne led the Cougars with two hits in three at bats. The Cougar defense was also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Pryce Rabroker earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott and pitched a fantastic one hit game. He gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking one.
The Cougars traveled to take on the Bartlett Bulldogs on Thursday, March 14.
Rosebud-Lott handily defeated Bartlett, winning 17-5 in five innings.
The Cougars started the game out hot with nine runs in the top of the first inning. Rawling Barton, Rolando Leon, Waylon Thigpen, Bo McGinniss, Pryce Rabroker, and Carson Layne all contributed to the huge inning. Bartlett answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, then Rosebud-Lott scored three unanswered runs in the second and third inning to make the score 12-3.
Bartlett responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, but the Cougars scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding lead 17-5, which was the final score.
Pryce Rabroker singled, scoring one run, Matt Lopez tripled, scoring three runs, and Kade Kleypas hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in one run. Rosebud-Lott accumulated nine hits in the game. Kade Kleypas and Rolondo Leon were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Cougars.
Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. The Cougars also ran wild on the base paths, piling up nine stolen bases for the game. In addition to a great game on offense, Rolondo Leon earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. He allowed five hits and five runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking four.
The Cougars traveled to play the Thrall Tigers on Saturday, March 16.
Rosebud-Lott came up short, losing to Thrall 12-9 in a high scoring battle.
With this loss, Rosebud-Lott has a record of 6-9 and a district record of 2-2. After a home game with the Chilton Pirates on Tuesday, the Cougars host the Milano Eagles. The game will be on Friday March 22 and is set for 7 p.m.
