Cougars victorious in Tournament play Saturday
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars baseball team hosted an in-season tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The tournament was originally scheduled to take place Thursday through Saturday, but due to weather complications, the tournament was only played Saturday.
The Cougars played two games Saturday and were victorious in both. Their first game of the day was against the Little River Academy Bumblebees. Rosebud-Lott defeated Academy, winning 9-4.
The Bumblebees struck first in the top of the first inning with three runs to lead 3-0. Rosebud-Lott answered with one run in the bottom of the first inning, then flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven runs to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the fourth inning was a triple by Pryce Rabroker that drove in three of those runs.
Rabroker led the team with three runs batted in. Orrin Pomykal showed the depth of the Cougars lineup by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Rosebud-Lott had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Carter Doskocil stepped on the mound first for Rosebud-Lott.
The starter gave up two hits and three runs over one inning, striking out none and walking three. Carson Kahlig earned the win for the Cougars. He gave up one hit and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking four. Rabroker pitched one inning of relief and earned the save. He allowed no hits and no runs with one walk and two strikeouts.
Their second and final game of the day was against the Milano Eagles. Rosebud-Lott handily defeated Milano 9-1. The Eagles struck first in the top of the first inning with a run to lead 1-0.
The Cougars answered with nine unanswered runs to lead 9-1, with five runs in the third inning, one in the fourth inning, and three in the sixth inning. Rosebud-Lott tallied nine hits in the game. Dustin Reaux collected two hits for the Cougars in four at bats.
Rosebud-Lott ran wild on the base paths, collecting eight stolen bases for the game. Rolando Leon earned the win on the mound for Rosebud-Lott. The starter allowed three hits and one run over six innings, striking out seven and walking two.
After playing Lovelady at home on Monday, the Cougars will participate in an in-season tournament hosted by Axtell during the weekend of Feb. 27-28. They will play two games on Tuesday (Bosqueville at 11:30 a.m. and Clifton at 3 p.m.) and one game on Friday (Axtell at 5:30 p.m.)
