Friday Night Football Previews
Dawson Bulldogs 7-2A DI (1-1) at Rosebud-Lott Cougars 13-2A DI (2-0) Friday, Sept. 12, at Cougar Stadium 7:30 p.m.
The Dawson Bulldogs limp into Cougar Stadium this Friday evening to take on Rosebud-Lott Cougars. Dawson is coming off a nailbiting 7-0 loss to the Cougars of Leon High last Friday night. The Bulldogs had a season low in offense, with 123 total yards. This is a team that is capable of piling up 300 plus yards per game. Dawson is led by quarterback Brant Boatright, running back Evan Javier, and receiver Chace Thomas. Rosebud-Lott is 2-0 to start the 2025 season, after clawing out the eyes of the Tigers from Thrall last Friday night, 49-14. QB Pryce Rabroker led the Cougar offense completing 11 of 19 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He also had seven carries for 171 yards and three rushing TDs. Zaylon Wells was the leading rusher for the charging Cougar offense, carrying the ball 14 times for 217 yards and two TDs. Daniel Rincon was the leading receiver in the win with three catches for 91 yards and a TD. Coach Brandon Hicks unleashed the Cougar offense, so expect more of the same this Friday night against Dawson.
Maypearl Panthers 53A DI (1-1) at Cameron Yoemen 11-3A DI (0-2) Friday, Sept. 12, at Yoe Field 7:30 p.m.
The Panthers are fresh off the 33-7 mauling of the Mart Panthers last Friday night at home. This week, they have to match up against a Cameron Yoe team that is hungry for a win. Coach Nicolas De La Cerda will lean towards QB Collin Brooks, RB Texas Wyant, and receiver Tristan Brooks to lead the offense, while linebacker Hunter Davis will help out defensively for the team. Yoe coach Aaron Babino will need to come up with a game plan to stop Maypearl defensively, while looking for ways to keep the offense moving forward and into the end zone. There were a few players that stepped up their game on defense, led by Tra’veon Myles five solo tackles. Senior Brody Aguirre pitched in with five total tackles (3 solo, two assists), and Ilan Basey finished the game for the Yoemen with four total tackles (3 solo, 1 assist), one of those was for a loss. This could be the week Cameron Yoe turns things around, especially back home in front of their fans.
Bartlett Bulldogs 13-2A DII (1-1) at Thorndale Bulldogs 14-2A DI (1-1) Friday, Sept. 12, at Bulldog Stadium in Thorndale
Bartlett is fresh off their first win of the season, and hope to keep that momentum moving forward. The Bulldogs beat Bruceville-Eddy, 33-6 last week. The team is led by Coach Ty Oppermann, who has in his offensive arsenal, QB Ryder Castro, and WRs Tywon Walker, and Aaron Hernandez, along with top prospect Aidan Botts at TE. For Thorndale, QB Case McDaniel will need to have a big game passing, while RBs Hayden Thigpen (17-63-1 against Granger), Cole Harkins (1346), and Ryan Creech (3-44) have to keep the Thorndale running game pushing forward. The Bulldogs lost a tough one last week to Granger, 42-21. This team should bounce back, but mustn’t find themselves taking Bartlett for granted.
Chilton Pirates 10-2A DII (2-0) at Marlin Bulldogs 13-2A DI (0-2) Friday, Sept. 12, at Featherston Field in Marlin
Coach Bennie Huitt’s Pirate team is off to a good start this season, winning their first two games, the latest a 46-0 thrashing of the Italy Gladiators last Friday at home. The Pirates kept the pressure on in the first half of the game, scoring 38 of their 46 points by halftime, and adding another TD in the third quarter. Players to watch will be OL Miguel Fajardo, DL Brent Murphy, DL Bryant Murphy, RB Jaylen Dorsey, and WRs Taureen Evans and Jayceon Caldron. The Marlin Bulldogs will need to get the offense going early in this one, and keep the defensive pressure on as well. Marlin is coming off a 40-7 loss to Honey Grove last Thursday night. Coach Jeff Rogers will rely on his QB De’Angelo Wright, and receivers Jaden Ray and Keyshaun Massington to do just this, while D’aire Johnson, Daniel Vallecillos, and Danique Benjamin will need to lead the charge defensively for the Bulldogs. This could be make it or break it for Marlin Friday night, but they will be playing in front of a home crowd.
Buckholts Badgers 161A/Six-Man DII (1-1) at Mullin Bulldogs 141A/Six-Man DII (0-2) Friday, Sept. 12, at Bulldog Field in Mullin
The Badgers fell to Gustine last Thursday evening on the road, 56-8. Coach Robert Smith’s team has a good chance to pick up a win this week against Mullin, but once again, they’ll be the visiting team. However, this game should go in the win column this week. In the game against Gustine, QB Blade Duarte led the Badger defense with 54 yards and a TD on the ground. Duarte and Joseph Hansen-Blum recorded five solo tackles each, while Braxton Reese finished with four, and blocked two field goal attempts defensively. Johandy Ventura racked up 59 yards on two kickoff returns to help put the offense in good shape. “Gustine is a good team,” said Coach Smith. “We learned a lot through watching game film on Friday. We went over the things we did well and the things we need to improve on. Execution on offense and defensive is the big takeaway. We’re still young and learning the game of football, but we’re getting there.” Mullin hasn’t had a problem putting points on the board. In their two losses, they are averaging 42.5 points per game. It’s on defense where they’re giving up almost 60 ppg. Coach Ethan Smart will need everything his players can muster, especially without the comfort of having depth in his bench. This could very well be a classic last man standing affair this Friday night.
Milano Eagles
13-2A DII (0-2) have the night off as they prepare for their game on Sept. 19 against the Moody Bearcats at home.
