Homecoming celebration for the Cougars Friday

They have begun the season as great as anyone in the Rosebud-Lott family could have wished for. These “Rolo Coogs” are the real deal and they will be a force in district play when it begins. First they will continue their non-district schedule with a Homecoming game against CTCS High School.

The Cougars have ridden the quick and elusive legs of quarterback Ja-Quorion Johnson to three consecutive victories. He has been spectacular in his play and has directed the Coogs option offense efficiently.

Halfbacks Cody Wells and Ty Stock have given them the ability to attack defenses on the outside.

Meanwhile fullback Ethan Easley gives them the ability to force teams to defend the middle of the field. His occasional jaunts up the heart of the defense loosen things up for Johnson’s long runs.  He has five touchdowns of greater than 50 yards, including a 90-yard sprint.

The Cougars will look to put on a show for all those fans that are returning to see them perform.

It’s Homecoming and all the former Coogs will be live and loud in the stands on this night. CTCS will have their hands full trying to contain the Cougars, especially on this night.

The Rosebud-Lott Cougars played an inspired game on Friday night but they could not overcome the loss of their leader quarterback JaQuorion Johnson to a sprained ankle and as a result the Wortham Bulldogs found their bite and it proved to be to strong a grip for the Rosebud-Lott Cougars to overcome on this night.

The Bulldogs used their size advantage and the power running attack led by Stephon Ester and Dalton Sandlin to control the tempo and limit the chances for the Rosebud offense and back up quarterback Ty Stock to win 38-21. The Coogs found themselves playing catch up all night and in the end they never quite made it over the hump.

They took an early lead at 14-7, on a Cody Wells 46 yard touchdown and an Ethan Easley 6 yard run.

However, the Bulldogs ground attack was just to much for the Coogs behind that massive offensive line as they would score the next five times they had the ball to build a 31-14 advantage.

Without Johnson the Coogs could get no closer than 31-21 on a Ty Stock touchdown but Wortham would score one final time to make the final score 38-21. It was a tough loss for the Coogs but they played well and have a lot to build upon. Plus, their field general should return for Homecoming.
