Lady Cougars are on the prowl

After a 2-0 start to district play the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars have their sights focused on a district title and to do so they need to play well this week.

Tuesday they entertain the Bremond Lady Tigers in a match up of two unbeaten teams in district play with the same aspirations. The Lady Coogs get the advantages of taking on the Lady Tigers at home in the first round of district play.

Seniors, Ashley Sterner, Rebecca Bennett and Lexi Hughes realize this is their last opportunity to claim a district championship before graduation so they will be out to make sure their younger teammates understand the gravity of this week in district.

After Tuesday, they have to go on the road for the toughest road game of the district play when they face the Moody Lady Bearcats.

The Lady Bearcats won district last season and are picked to repeat again but there are teams that believe otherwise. Included among those are the Lady Coogs and Coach Spencer. So this will be a telling week for the team in their chase for a possible title.

This past Tuesday the Lady Cougars traveled to Calvert to play one of the two Class 1A teams. They got off to a slow start and had a tough first round match with the Lady Trojans before pulling away to win 25-19.

They played much stronger in game two disposing of Calvert 25-7 in that one. The third game was a close game early but the Lady Coogs showed why they are the better team with a 25-14 win to close out the match.

It was a good preparation match for Rosebud-Lott coming before the teeth of the district play starts. The Lady Coogs also defeated Waco Rapoport on Friday to go 3-0 to start the district chase.
